Tumblr Tuesday: enmesh by Mackenzie Frere

"In Recollect 1, linen weft threads were tied using a kasuri technique. They were then bleached, re-tied and finally dyed using an ancient, weeks-long process with madder root to create what is known as Turkey Red. The kasuri process appeals to me because each tie represents a discrete moment – a single gesture among potentially thousands."

If you are in need of a fashion time out and a real textural take on the warp and weft of cloth, do not miss textile artist friend Mackenzie Frere's Tumblr site, enmesh. Mackenzie is an extraordinary artist and teacher based in Calgary, Canada. He has a unique eye for all things seemingly simple but sustainably complex. His hand woven cloth has been exhibited internationally, and he is also a respected voice in the art of craft. I love visiting enmesh as it always reminds me the range of connective fibers between art, fashion, and slow design.

Do not miss Mackenzie Frere's other online enterprise, Art Cloth Text.
